PINDARE and EURAXESS: two complementary initiatives

The topics covered on PINDARE echo another initiative: EURAXESS (EURAXESS | Researchers in motion)

Supported by the European Commission, Euraxess aims to support mobility and career development for researchers working or wishing to work in Europe. This initiative is linked to the principles of the European Charter for Researchers of which the five universities of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles are signatories. This single document comprises 20 principles that must be applied by researchers, signatory institutions, funders and policy makers. It establishes the rights and obligations of each party, ensuring a common framework. At each university in the FWB, an Euraxess steering committee coordinates its institution’s commitment to the European Charter for Researchers.

All FWB universities have also been awarded the HR Excellence in Research Award (formerly HRS4R), signifying their commitment to promoting the principles of the Charter and implementing ethical and transparent recruitment practices.

Euraxess is:

  • 1 European portal and 43 national portals listing job offers, funding opportunities and researcher hosting opportunities;
  • 9 global hubs
  • More than 600 support centres structured to meet the needs of researchers at national and local level;
  • Training opportunities;
  • Career development tools;
  • Practical information on host countries and intercultural issues;
  • Mobility opportunities;
  • Collaboration opportunities.

The objectives of Euraxess:

  • Promote and facilitate the mobility of researchers;
  • Help them develop their careers;
  • Optimise collaboration between Europe and the rest of the world;
  • Support refugee researchers in their search for employment in Europe.

Although the PINDARE platform (PINDARE) and the Belgian Euraxess portal (EURAXESS) are two key access points to resources for the scientific community in FWB and contribute to enriching the research environment, they are nonetheless different.  While the Belgian Euraxess portal aims to attract scientists from other countries to Belgium and direct them to existing Belgian service centres for personalised support, PINDARE focuses on the essential aspects of research practices specific to the FWB: research evaluation, open science, ethics, scientific integrity and inter-university training. In addition, PINDARE supports Euraxess, in particular by providing a range of resources that respond concretely to the desire for better support for researchers in their careers.

Ultimately, the two initiatives appear to be complementary. The Euraxess steering committees of the FWB universities work regularly in close collaboration with the members of the FWB-CoARA project administering the PINDARE platform.
