The Mind The GAP training course is an interactive tool developed by VLIR (Vlaamse Interuniversitaire Raad) in collaboration with the Scientific Integrity Advisers of the five Flemish universities: Universiteit Antwerpen – UAntwerpen, Vrije Universiteit Brussel – VUB, Universiteit Hasselt – UHasselt, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven – KU Leuven and Universiteit Gent – UGent.
Target audience: Doctoral students, early-career researchers, thesis supervisors and experienced supervisors wishing to update their knowledge.
Objectives
- Understand the fundamentals of scientific integrity
- Identify good practices throughout the research cycle
- Reflect on risks, grey areas and ethical dilemmas
- Encourage individual and collective responsibility
Training content
- Module 1: Introduction to scientific integrity
- Module 2: Supervision and mentoring
- Module 3: Best practices in research (design, data management, evaluation, conflicts of interest, scientific communication, etc.)
- Module 4: Violations of scientific integrity
- Additional modules: GDPR, institutional ethical rules
