On 22 May 2025, UNamur had the pleasure of hosting the presentation event for the FWB/CoARA inter-university project. This project, which began in early 2024, brought together Belgium’s five French-speaking universities for fifteen months with the aim of developing tools and processes for evaluating and recognising research and researchers in line with the principles of the CoARA charter, signed by the universities of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation between September 2022 and October 2023. The feedback event was a highlight of the project, during which the results were presented to the entire research community. In particular, the project participants presented the inter-university platform PINDARE (Plateforme INteruniversitaire D’Accompagenement de la REcherche et des chercheurs), linked to the CRef website, which is designed as a single gateway to the training courses, events, resources and projects offered by universities.
In addition to presenting the project deliverables, the day was firmly focused on researchers. The afternoon, dedicated to exploring topics related to the FWB/CoARA project, was particularly enriching, offering a series of workshops followed by plenary sessions featuring prestigious speakers from the European Commission, the FNRS, the EUA and UNESCO. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, from research evaluation to open access, ethics, scientific integrity and the challenges of a career in research. Marius Gilbert closed the day.
Strong inter-university collaboration has been promoted, with the aim of addressing crucial issues, particularly those defined by Europe. The impetus provided by the first grant from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation has helped to create a favourable dynamic towards an overhaul of research evaluation.
