Producing research data of good quality can be costly. Besides data collection costs, data management, data curation, documentation, storage, and publication can also be expensive. When establishing your data management plan, it is important to consider all these steps and their related costs.

Producing research data of good quality can be costly.
For example, you might need help from someone at certain steps of the process and include their payment in the costs. You may, for instance, need the help of an IT specialist for one month, and he/she should be paid through this grant as well.
Some storage or repository solutions may also incur costs. Be mindful of these aspects when considering storage or repository options.
Depending on your research funder, some of these costs may be eligible during or after the research project period. First, try to estimate these costs (see tools below). Then, contact the Research Administration Office of your university (the contact person may depend on your funder: Horizon Europe, ERC, FNRS, etc.).
For European Commission projects, you can find specific documentation on planning data management costs here.
