Publish and Share :
Funding organizations and scientific journals are increasingly asking researchers to publish and share their data. This ensures the long-term preservation of data and facilitates access to it. It also supports the reproducibility of research and increases the visibility of research results and researchers.
However, for legal, ethical or commercial reasons, all data can’t be open. The principle of open data is « as open as possible, as closed as necessary ».
In practice, publishing and sharing data involves several steps: choosing a data repository, selecting the data, adding metadata, and possibly placing an embargo on it. It also involves considering legal and ethical aspects and how to protect your data before opening it up.
This section will focus on these different aspects:
- firstly, we will discuss the principle of “as open as possible, as closed as necessary”;
- secondly, we will provide practical guidelines for opening up your data;
- finally, we will look at legal and ethical considerations and how to protect your data before sharing.
